Before we dive into the fun, I want to share a more serious note this week. As you know, I occasionally host a podcast conversation with inspiring people from our community; local business owners, politicians, and those with a compelling story to tell.
This past Friday, I interviewed the amazing Robert Banghart, Community Director for the non-profit Shine a Light Las Vegas. Shine a Light has two crucial goals: getting members of the Vegas homeless population out of the tunnel systems and off the streets, and providing an 18-month case management program. This program guides participants from being unhoused, through detox and treatment if needed, into temporary housing, and finally, toward full employment as quickly as possible.
The interview was truly eye-opening, revealing the critical gaps in the city's resources and how organizations like Shine A Light prevent the homeless population from falling through the cracks. I can't capture the full story here, so I strongly encourage you to listen to the podcast episode when it drops this week on YouTube or Spotify.
I will personally be donating to Shine a Light, as I believe groups like this offer the most effective path to integrating the Vegas homeless population back into society, helping them find work, and providing essential treatment when necessary. If every one of our readers donated $5 - they would raise over $100,000 and meet their annual goal. I’ve vetted their non-profit tax returns, and over ninety-cents on the dollar of every donation goes to the program participants. For those of you not familiar with how non-profits work - that’s a world-class number. Please help them out if you can here.

🌟 Jackson Street Alliance Honored

The Gist: The Las Vegas City Council named the Jackson Street Alliance as April “Citizens of the Month” for their work supporting businesses, residents, and preserving history on Jackson Avenue. The city has partnered with the group on infrastructure and revitalization projects.
Why It Matters: Their efforts help keep the historic Westside vibrant and thriving for both locals and visitors. Neighbors can celebrate a group dedicated to restoring activity and pride in the community.
