The city of Las Vegas has started work on a series of traffic calming and median island improvement projects designed to make local streets safer for drivers, pedestrians, and nearby neighborhoods.

Beginning June 1, crews are making improvements at 18 locations throughout the city. The work includes the installation of concrete median curbing, new speed humps, signage, and pavement markings. The goal is to slow vehicle speeds in residential areas, reduce unsafe U-turns, and better manage traffic flow in areas where safety concerns have been identified.

Traffic calming projects are often used in neighborhoods where speeding, cut-through traffic, or unsafe driving behavior can create concerns for residents. By adding physical improvements such as speed humps and median curbing, the city aims to encourage safer driving habits while improving overall mobility.

Residents should expect temporary lane restrictions while construction is underway. Work is scheduled to continue through August, with crews typically working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

One location, Sahara Avenue at Santa Paula Drive, will have overnight work from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to help reduce traffic impacts during busier daytime hours.

The improvements are part of Las Vegas’ ongoing efforts to create safer streets and improve neighborhood mobility for everyone who travels through the city, including drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and residents.

Project locations include several residential corridors and intersections across Las Vegas, such as Brent Lane from Erik Lloyd Street to Skye Canyon Park Drive, Whispering Sands Drive, Azure Drive, Rebecca Road, J Street near Lake Mead Boulevard, Sahara Avenue at Santa Paula Drive, and multiple other neighborhood streets.

For residents living near the construction zones, the city is encouraging patience during temporary lane restrictions and work activity. Once complete, the upgrades are expected to help calm traffic, reduce unsafe maneuvers, and support safer travel through Las Vegas neighborhoods.
