If you’re always looking for a new local restaurant to try, Kinzuu Izakaya in southwest Las Vegas is one to put on the list. Located at 7395 S. Rainbow Blvd., Suite 120, Kinzuu brings together two bold food traditions: the punchy flavors of Isan cooking from northeastern Thailand and the casual, grilled-meat energy of a Japanese izakaya.

What I like about this concept is that it feels personal. Kinzuu Izakaya is the latest project from Sasi Phothidokmai, founder-owner of the Weera Thai Group, which has been operating Thai restaurants in Las Vegas for nearly 20 years. The name Kinzuu draws inspiration from a Thai phrase meaning “let’s eat together,” which really fits the spirit of the restaurant.

The restaurant quietly opened about two months ago, but held its grand opening celebration on Monday, July 27, 2026, at noon. The event included a ribbon-cutting, remarks from community figures, traditional Thai and Japanese dances, food and drink specials, and a meet-and-greet with the owners. That kind of opening gives the place a strong neighborhood feel while still bringing something fresh to the southwest Las Vegas dining scene.

A few reasons Kinzuu Izakaya stands out:

  • New Japanese-Thai restaurant in southwest Las Vegas

  • Located at 7395 S. Rainbow Blvd., Suite 120

  • Part of the Weera Thai Group

  • Created by Sasi Phothidokmai

  • Inspired by northeastern Thai Isan flavors

  • Japanese izakaya-style grilled meats

  • Kushi grilled skewers

  • Salmon dong

  • Grilled pork jowl

  • Isan tuna tartare roll

  • Nigiri, sashimi, and hand rolls

  • Carpaccio, ramen, rice, noodle dishes, fried dishes, and desserts

  • Grand opening held July 27, 2026

The menu is where the concept really gets interesting. Salmon dong features fish in a Thai-style marinade with soy sauce, mirin, garlic, jalapeño, honey, and water. The grilled pork jowl leans into that fatty, roasty izakaya feel and can be dusted with spicy Isan powder or served over wok-fried rice with jaew, a traditional northeastern Thai dipping sauce made with tamarind, palm sugar, fish sauce, roasted rice powder, and culantro.

The kushi grilled skewers also show off the Japanese-Thai crossover. They are offered yakitori style with shoyu, mirin, sake, and sugar, or Isan style rubbed with larb powder, along with more than a dozen other styles. That gives diners a chance to taste familiar Japanese izakaya grilling through a Thai flavor lens.

I also like that Kinzuu is not limiting itself to one lane. The menu includes special rolls, including one made with Isan tuna tartare seasoned with spices used for larb salad, plus nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, cold dishes, carpaccio, ramen, rice and noodle dishes, fried dishes, and desserts. It feels like the kind of place where you can go light with sushi and skewers or make it a full dinner with noodles, rice, and shared plates.

My take is this: Kinzuu Izakaya is a strong new addition to southwest Las Vegas for anyone who loves Thai food, Japanese izakaya culture, bold flavors, and shareable dining. With the Weera Thai team behind it, Isan flavors at the center, and a menu built around grilled meats, sushi, ramen, and creative dishes, this is a local restaurant worth watching and supporting.
