Clark County just added a great new outdoor amenity for the southwest valley. A 3.1-mile multi-use trail loop is now complete at James Regional Sports Park, giving residents a dedicated 5K-distance route for walking, running, biking, rollerblading, stroller walks, and community fitness events.

What I like about this project is that it was designed with different users in mind. The new loop has a dual-surface layout, with a 10-foot-wide paved asphalt path for cyclists, walkers, rollerbladers, and parents pushing strollers, plus a parallel 5-foot-wide compacted decomposed granite path for runners and joggers who want a softer, lower-impact surface. That kind of thoughtful design makes the trail more comfortable and practical for more people.

The trail wraps around the perimeter of James Regional Sports Park, a 107-acre recreational facility located at 8400 W. Robindale Road in the southwest valley. The park already includes tournament soccer fields, a splash pad, an all-inclusive playground, walking paths, and open green space, so this new loop adds another major reason for families and fitness-minded locals to visit.

A few key features stand out:

  • 3.1-mile loop, matching a traditional 5K distance

  • Dual-surface design for different users

  • 10-foot-wide paved asphalt path

  • 5-foot-wide decomposed granite running path

  • Open to walkers, runners, cyclists, stroller users, and rollerbladers

  • Two tunnels under Robindale Road

  • Direct connection to nearby neighborhoods

  • Access to soccer fields, splash pad, and inclusive playground

  • Open daily during normal park hours, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The safety piece is a big deal. The project was coordinated with Clark County Public Works improvements along Robindale Road and includes two tunnels under Robindale Road between Durango Drive and Buffalo Drive. Those undercrossings help connect nearby residential areas to the park without forcing trail users to cross major roadways, which makes the route safer and easier to follow.

This also gives local race organizers a cleaner route for 5K events. Girls on the Run Las Vegas is already planning its first annual Girl Power 5K/10K at the park on October 3, 2026, and the new loop should make events like that easier to manage and more enjoyable for participants.

My take is this: the new James Regional Sports Park trail is a smart investment in health, safety, and community recreation. It gives southwest Las Vegas residents a dedicated outdoor space to exercise without crossing busy streets, while also making one of the area’s major sports parks even more useful for families, athletes, and visitors.
